Fanart of Maleficent, the dark fairy of Sleeping Beauty who curses Aurora. While Sleeping Beauty is not Disney's best film, Maleficent is certainly their most awesome villain.
She moves with beautifully animated grace, always regal in her tall, horned outfit. Never do you see her run or break a sweat. Then there's her motive. She puts a curse on the princess because the king and queen don't invite her to a party. She has nothing to gain from it -- it's purely an act of spite, for the sake of pride and amusement. Whee!
And yet we do get occasional hints of unhappiness underlying the mistress of all evil's facade. When her minions are celebrating wildly over their victory, we see Maleficent brooding on her throne and petting the raven, looking bored and... well, I think she looks very isolated there. Until she distracts herself by psychologically tormenting the prince (call me a cynic, but I totally agree with her views on true love, beauty, and all that nonsense...)
Then that mimbo of a prince and those three namby pamby fairies had to kill her, argh!
Painted in Photoshop.
Disclaimer: Maleficent, the raven, etc., are the property of Walt Disney co. This painting is produced without permission or endorsement by Walt Disney and is a work of fan art. Lots of love for Maleficent.
Eeek! So cool. I love how you even kept the style but still updated it to make it look more 3D and rounded. She looks very...shiny. [steals costume] XD
Thank you! Her original design is so lovely I wanted to stay true to it.
The animation doesn't really give me much of an indication of what sort of fabric she wears... velvet? Silk? Being a lover of shiny, I couldn't resist making it into gleaming satin.
Much as I love her costume, it would get seriously hot, don't you think? And how she walks without tripping on those long robes... no wonder she never runs! She'd fall over. That wouldn't be very dignified. XD (But it would be really, really funny...)

On a black throne made of gouged out eyes Sits the Regent of Darkness, the Lord of the Flies
Whenever I saw the Disney movies when I was little, all the scary ladies like Maleficent and Snow White's stepmum scared me to death. Don't ask why. But I do admit, now that I am not such a coward, that Maleficent is a excellent villain. I entirely agree with you on you opinions. She's evil, yet refined in her darkness. Aristocratic and spiteful, she had so much potential for utter maliciousness...and that dragon at the end was sweet! I always thought that it was very much like her. I also hated the princess, prince, and fairies. Who the heck would kill someone so awesome!?!? They were so despicably nice, ignorant, and devastatingly stupid. UGH!

actually that's something walt disney became concerned about because children repeatedly stated that the villians often freaked them out and gave them nightmares @ night...
"Paint someone cool now"??? She IS cool! Can you think of a cooler Disney villain?
Thanks for the comment, love. It's sweet that you faved her even though you are ashamed of me. At least I didn't paint her kissing Aurora, eh? Rawr. Hawt!
