Zhuge Liang Portrait by Ahyicodae Zhuge Liang Portrait by Ahyicodae
Though I'm not too good at drawing from my imagination, I can copy things from references. This is Three Kingdoms' Zhuge Liang, from the Chinese television series in which he is played by Tang Guo Qiang. I just paused the vcd and started drawing. He doesn't look quite Chinese enough... somehow he ended up with a western look to him. It really bothers me. Other than that, I'm pleased with how this turned out.

Zhuge Liang was a brilliant strategist and politician who lived around 200 AD during the Three Kingdoms era. He's my favorite character, ever, from my favorite novel ever, which is Three Kingdoms. The...er... television series could've used a little work... particularly on the fight scenes. However, Zhuge Liang is still an awesome character.

Edit: Forgot to add... this was done with a ball-point pen on bristol paper.

Looks nice... I am trying to work on my own version of Zhuge Liang... but I hope to find some references from the Classic TV series... I like that actor more than "Red Cliff" 's actor...

He really was a geniouse of his time. I adore the rival relationship he had with Sima Yi XD. Especially when Zhuge Liang sent Sima Yi womens clothes to taunt him when he holed himelf up lmfaooo!!!

I love this picture, it certinately gives him justuice, and although he does have a little bit of a westen look, I still recognized him as chinese.

Sure. Keep in mind the copyright for the character (as portrayed here) is CCTV's production of Three Kingdoms, with Tang Guo Qiang as Zhuge Liang. I just paused a frame from the series and drew it. =P

That is absolutely beautiful :worship:, I'm speechless, well Zhugers you finally got yourself a portrait in the 84 episode version <3.

I have to agree with Ripplepelt, the Ge in Zhuge is an actual part of a surname not a middle name. Before they don't have a 'middle name' just the surname and the first name as well as a style name. Also it wouldn't make sense if it were Zhu Ge nowadays since the word Zhuge is already synonymous with intelligence.

Go Ahyicodae! Go Zhugers!

Great work, fellow Romance of the Three Kingdoms Fan. Would you happen to play SimRTK or other RTK related sims?

I don't--purely because I haven't got the time. But yeah, I am a hardcore 3K fan! :D I love the novel, have played a few of the Romance games and most of the DW games and Kessen II, own the CCTV series...

Romance of the Three Kingdoms is the best! XD Sadly not very many people have read it in the west...

Not everyone's lucky (or unlucky enough) to be a jobless slacker in college, I guess. :P

I'm a big fan too, I've started with the DW series, then discovered the novel and the sims, then the RTK games series. I watched the first part of the red Cliffs movie on Youtube, back when it was there, and can't wait for the sequel... I've very recently played DW6... and I am still fulminating over how they've raped the storyline... :( Sun Ce at Chi Bi, Yuan Shu siding with Wang Lang and Co, Ma Chao siding with Liu Zhang, no Pang De... The only thing that made me smile was how Liu Bei wanted to avenge Guan Yu at Yi Ling and did not mention Zhang Fei... no one did, actually... I'm ranting, though. Great to meet a fellow RTK fan. :)

Thank you very much! This was a rather sad scene in the series, after he suffered some unfortunate defeats. It's funny how in the novel he didn't seem to age much, though when he died it was incredibly sad (I was depressed for like a week). But in the TV show he was more human. His character changed a lot over time.

I need to go reread those books. First one's a bit tough to get through with so many names coming and going, but it's worth it.

You're welcome! I'm watching the TV series the second time through and I'm just half-way through it now. I love Zhuge Liang! Especially when he laughs because seeing him happy makes me happy as well XD. Yes, I'm thinking of reading the translated version of the Three Kingdoms novel - even though I know it's going to be a heavy read! :D

Well... unfortunately, I had to buy mine. You might be able to download some of it someplace... I know there are a few eps up on youtube, but they are mostly from the beginning and (IMO) pretty dull. I think there are maybe one or two northern campaign sections up, too.

They are subtitled in English. Pretty badly, I have to admit. But I don't speak any mandarin at all, and the subtitles get the meaning across well enough, if in sometimes hilarious Engrish. :D

Good luck on your search! :)
