Artist's Comments

Though I'm not too good at drawing from my imagination, I can copy things from references. This is Three Kingdoms' Zhuge Liang, from the Chinese television series in which he is played by Tang Guo Qiang. I just paused the vcd and started drawing. He doesn't look quite Chinese enough... somehow he ended up with a western look to him. It really bothers me. Other than that, I'm pleased with how this turned out.

Zhuge Liang was a brilliant strategist and politician who lived around 200 AD during the Three Kingdoms era. He's my favorite character, ever, from my favorite novel ever, which is Three Kingdoms. The...er... television series could've used a little work... particularly on the fight scenes. However, Zhuge Liang is still an awesome character.

Edit: Forgot to add... this was done with a ball-point pen on bristol paper.

Looks good. The slight glassy effect with the right eye is particularly well handled. Just curious, what medium did you use for this?
:icontoniq1:
veeery nice
i'm also wondering what medium was used

I absolutely love the lifelike eyes. This is a lovely, well-done portrait, very impressive :D

I think he looks fine, but maybe its the nose that makes him look a bit Western

Fantastic picture, I was wondering when you would get around to doing some Zhuge Liang artwork.

Never saw Zhuge Liang before but he doesn't look western to me in this pic, I recognised him right away as Chinese... I'm also impressed you got shadings that subtle w a ball point... good stuff. ^^

:gasp:  Yay!! He looks very good, I like him a lot. Zhuge Liang looks just like Zhuge Liang. (the T.V. show could use *some* work...? -cough-) He looks excellent, great job!!

.... :!: :!: ...BALL-POINT PEN????
...awesome...eyes in particular are really impressive - I've never seen the tv series, but this is so realistic I assume it's also resembling the real one - but even if it didn't, it's a wonderful piece - and I don't like chinese subjects, in general!

Oh, I've had this for awhile. I just hadn't posted it because it doesn't really fit with the fantasy theme in my gallery. I've actually got quite a few portraits of him. They're up in the fanart section at kongming.net

Thanks for the comment! Glad you like it.

Thank you!
It was done with a Pilot ball-point pen. The ink was actually a little purplish, but when I scanned it I darkened it to black.
